Semantics and Data Lakes

Just read a good article in Big Data Quarterly by Joe McKendrick (which must only be in the print edition because I can't find it on line) titled "Calming the Turbulent Waters of Data Lakes".  He nails it in the middle of the article "The best way to avoid having data lakes decay into haphazard 'data swamps' is to have a strong, semantic structure to provide consistency and enable the easy discovery and access fo essential data"

Couldn't agree more.
